Many of our jewelry items may be altered in various ways. Occasionally we receive requests to use different gemstones in place of what may be displayed on our site and in our store. Other requests have included the use of more or less stones or different size stones for a particular item.
Our “Special Order” policy applies to alteration requests regarding our ready made in store or online items only.
Such requests may be possible, but are non-refundable, unless there is an error on behalf of Readers Fine Jewelers 5th Generation. We reserve the right to correct any issues prior to issuing a refund.

Repair-and-Care* items that are provided to customers at NO CHARGE. These services do indeed require much time and effort from master craftsmen, but Readers’ is committed to absorbing these charges themselves in order to make the sale and service of our customers even simpler.
When customers purchase at Readers Fine Jewelers, the purchase is more than an investment in a beautiful piece of jewelry- it is also an investment in the lifetime care of the piece by their expert craftsmen.
Readers Fine Jewelers 5th Generation, Lifetime Repair and Care Services include the following:
- Sizing Balls / Sizing (when possible)
- General refurbish/cleaning
- Engraving touch-up
- All normal wear and tear repairs
- Clasp Adjustments
- Gemstone Setting Inspection
Custom Orders & Consultations
Many of our customers request our service to provide them with a one of a kind piece of fine jewelry. We are pleased to accept all previous design ideas and images you have gathered to assist us in preparing your custom order.
All custom orders require a 50% non-refundable deposit. Full payment of your custom order is due upon delivery.
Consultations
Our staffs’ goal is to provide every one of our clients with the best service in designing their custom orders. We provide the initial custom order consultation at no charge. Furthermore, consultations that require sample designs, such as CAD drawings, computer waxes and/ or hand carved waxes, will incur an additional charge. This is applied to the deposit and the final price of the item.
